Americans with Disabilities Act- Clear and enforceable standards involvingdiscrimination against disabilities. An individual will not be discriminated against strictly due to one’s disability. This includes being subjected to lesser services, programs, jobs, activities or other opportunities.

Greenspan, Alan- American economist who was the Chairman of Federal Reserve from 1987-2006 in the United States. He supported Bill Clinton’s deficit reduction program. Greenspan is a very respected economist and benefitted the government in many ways. He is still somewhat active in today’s government.
Haiti- a country in the West Indies in which the United Nations set up a trade embargo due to the Organization of American States. in 1994, Americans negotiated the departure of Haiti's military leaders and the entry of United States forces in orders to establish democracy in Haiti.
Health Care Reform- The 1990s engaged in one of the most reform periods of the United States. Over 100 Health Care proposals were suggested by Clinton in which many were turned down because of opposition from insurance companies and medical professionals.
Impeachment- a formal document charging a public official with misconduct in office
Internet- The world wide web developed which effected the United States economically, socially and politically throughout the 1990s
Kevorkorian Jack Dr. - He was a doctor who throughout the 90’s helped end pain and suffering for patients. In 1999 he was convicted for helping a man with ALS.
King, Rodney- A victim in police brutalitycase involving the Los Angeles Police Department in 1991. Policemen were caught on videotape harshly assaulting King.
Line Item Veto- authorizes a chief executive to delete certain provisions of a bill engaged by legislature without vetoing the entire bill.
Los Angeles Riots- Officers accused by videotape were accused in assaulting Rodney King, an African American citizen. Over thousands of people rioted in Los Angeles for six days after this event.
Microsoft Antitrust Suit- set of civil actions filed against the Microsoft Corporations by the United States Department of Justice due to the idea that Microsoft was upholding a monoply and over operating the system sales and web browser sales.
NAFTA- North American Free Trade Agreement; became effective in 1994 for the agreement for tree trade between the United States, Canada and Mexico. This agreement lasted for ten years.
NATO- North Atlantic Treaty Organization; became effective in 1949 for purposes of collective security. Between August 1990 and March 1991 the United Nations was challenged for maintaining peace and security due to Iraqi invasions. NATO became heavily involved in trying to keep the peace.
Oklahoma City Bombing- Bomb attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. This occurred on April 19, 1995. The bombing was the most destructive act of terrorism other than September 11 bombings. It cost 168 lives and wounded more than 680 civilians. It also destroyed 384 surrounding buildings.
Panama Canal Treaty- Two treaties signed by the United States and Panama on September 7, 1997 called the Torrijos-Carter Treaties guaranteed that Panama would gain control of Panama Canal after 1999
Persian Gulf War- War fought in 1990-1991 between the United States and Iraq in which freed Kuwait from Iraqi invaders.
Savings and Loan Scandal- failure of about 747 saving and loan associations in the United States in which slowed down the finance industry and real estate market. This crisis was a cause of economic recessions in 1990-1991.
Somalia- A country in northeastern Africa in which the United Nations sought to provide and secure humanitarian relief. This operation lasted from April 1992 until December 1992.
Thomas, Clarence- United States jurist; an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Waco, TX- A shootout in Waco, Texas occurred in 1993 in which four agents of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were killed. This event became known as the Waco siege.
Welfare Reform- process of reforming the basis of social security and welfare provisions.
Whitewater Scandal- popular nickname for series of investigations by Bill Clinton. These investigations began in 1994 and lasted almost seven years. Criminal allegations against the President pressured him to provide a $300,000 loan to Susan McDougal illegally.
World Trade Center bombing- occurred on February 26, 1993 when a truck bomb exploded below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. This event killed about six people and wounded more than a thousand. A group of conspirators planned this action.
Y2K- In reference to the year 2000 many feared that computers will have trouble in storing year values and two digit figures with “00”. A new industry was established to help companies solve this problem and many other tools and services were offered to address the problem.
